Costa de la Luz off plan developments spain

THE COSTA DE LA LUZ

The Costa de la Luz (Coast of light) is the western part of the Andalucía coastline that faces out to the Atlantic. This page describes the eastern section which is the coastline of the province of Cádiz. The previous page described the western section which is the coastline of the province of Huelva.

Costa de la Luz property, unlike on most of the other costas in Spain, has only fairly recently been discovered by the many northern Europeans looking to buy property in Spain.

In the southern-most corner of Spain, the Costa de la Luz stretches from Huelva and the Portuguese border down to the port of Algeciras, the gateway to Africa and Tarifa the southernmost tip of Spain, also known as the windiest town and windsurfing capital of Europe.

Best known for its unspoilt coastline and stunning stretches of beaches, the Costa de la Luz remains on the whole undeveloped and undiscovered, though is about to take another leap in popularity, given the recent arrival of Ryanair flights from London Stanstead to Jerez, the home of sherry and Spanish brandy.

From north to south this is an interesting section of the coastastline. We start. at Sanlucar de Barrameda with its golden sands overlooking the River Guadalquivir and Donaña National Park. Further south, around the small villages of Chipiona and Rota (often remembered by Americans for the Military Base) we find fine beaches.

The town El Puerto de Santa Maria is famous for its restaurants serving succulent king prawns washed down with chilled Manzanilla wine. The historic walled city of Cadiz is built in a Peninsular jutting into the bay of Cadiz. The isthmus joining the mainland exhibits miles of beaches and the Bay of Cadiz is a natural park.

South of the golf at Sancti Petri we find a ragged coastline dominated by coves and cliffs often backed by pine forests. The best are located just to the north of the fishing town of Barbate and are protected in the Cliffs and Pinewood of Barbate Natural Park. Trees of Barbate. Don't miss the 'trendy' coastal villages of Conil de la Frontera, Caños de Meca, and Zahara de las Atunes, not forgetting Vejer the fortified hilltop white village 10km inland. Bolonia hamlet (visit the Roman ruins) sits in a isolated cove protected by rocky headlands.

We soon reach Tarifa the windsurfing capital of Europe. Its best wind and kite surfing beaches to the north are called Playa Los Lances and Playa Valdevaqueros.

Inland from the coast, the area is beautiful and tranquil and inland Costa de la Luz property is being bought up by many Brits looking for homes in the delightfully Spanish "pueblos blancos" such as Arcos de la Frontera or Vejer de la Frontera. The area is divided into two provinces: Huelva, still relatively undeveloped and offering the scenic hills of the Sierra Morena, the national parkland of the Coto Doñana and its unforgettable coastline, and Cadiz.

Property prices in the area are most definitely rising as more and more people are investing in Costa de la Luz property.
